If you’re unemployed, the last thing you need is to be scammed while trying to find work. But cons posing as employers are ripping off job-seekers throughout the country. The feds are fighting back. You can, too.
As part of its new “Operation Bottom Dollar” crackdown, the Federal Trade Commission announced seven new cases against promoters of bogus jobs and money-making scams. The sweep also included 43 criminal actions by the U.S. Department of Justice, many involving the substantial assistance of the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, as well as 18 actions by state attorneys general. One defendant, Real Wealth, Inc., allegedly conned more than 100,000 people by selling them booklets that supposedly explained how they could earn money by applying for government grants and work from home mailing postcards.
