The Federal Trade Commission recently announced that more than 200 warning letters have been sent to lenders, brokers, and publishers about deceptive mortgage advertisements that appear in newspapers and online or are sent via junk e-mails and faxes. The agency also released a helpful new consumer fact sheet that provides tips for discovering the hidden truth behind the claims for low rates and payments. Often, the most important information isn't in the ad.
