As my good deed for the day, I wanted to call attention to a settlement reached last week between the Federal Trade Commission and Ticketmaster in regards to what the FTC alleges were “deceptive bait-and-switch tactics to sell event tickets” for Bruce Springsteen shows late last year.
According to the charges, Ticketmaster redirected Springsteen fans to its resale site,TicketsNow. If you’ve ever purchased tickets for popular sold-out events through ticket resale sites, you know that the markups on these prices are often exorbitant. For these particular shows, the prices reached up to quadruple the face value.
Ticketmaster claims that the redirection was caused by a glitch and has agreed to refund more than 1,000 customers the difference between what they paid on TicketsNow and what they would have paid buying directly from Ticketmaster.
Some concertgoers who attended shows in the following 14 cities have been sent claim forms to receive their refund: Glendale, Ariz.; San Jose, Calif.; Los Angeles, Calif.; Denver, Colo.; Hartford, Conn.; Atlanta, Ga.; Chicago, Ill.; Boston, Mass.; Saint Paul, Minn.; East Rutherford, N.J.; Long Island, N.Y.; Pittsburgh, Pa..; University Park, Pa..; and Washington, DC.
Sure, it’s not inordinately likely that one of our loyal readers is (or knows of) an affected party, but you never know.
Happy Monday, folks!
