We need more people like Renton Walmart employee Carrie Smith. Smith, 68, was featured in a recent Seattle Times article for talking people out of sending thousands of dollars by wire transfer to scammers. One saved victim called her a “guardian angel.” We agree.
Common scams right now include cons posing as grandchildren in trouble, phony job offers and work-at-home ploys, fake sweepstakes and lotteries, and bogus rental ads, to name just a few. Remember, never send money by wire transfer to someone you don’t personally know. If you receive a check, that’s a good sign you're being scammed.
