Free homeownership counseling is now available to Washington residents, thanks to $1.5 million earmarked by this year's Legislature to help educate residents about mortgages, refinancing, foreclosures and avoiding scams.
The Washington Homeowners Information Hotline and Counseling Program provides free counseling to those thinking about buying a home and to current homeowners who are having trouble with their mortgages. For assistance, call 1-877-894-HOME (4663) or check out the program's Web site.
The Washington State Department of Financial Institutions is overseeing implementation of the program and the Washington State Housing Finance Commission is distributing the money to qualified counseling agencies.
