Winning free airline tickets sounds wonderful but be cautious. Often if an offer sounds too good to be true, it is.
Washington residents have been receiving letters through the mail saying they have "qualified for an award of two roundtrip airline tickets" through US Airlines.
US Airlines doesn't actually exist. Recently, these scammers became aware consumers were not falling for the US Airlines name, so have been using American Airlines instead.
This is a phishing scam.
The Washington State Attorney General's Office has recently been receiving consumer complaints about this scam and urges residents to be cautious.
These scammers want you to call their toll-free number in order to get your personal information-not to give you free airline tickets.
If you have received this letter or are a victim of this scam, remember to file a complaint with the Washington State Attorney General's Office www.atg.wa.gov/FileAComplaint.aspx.
