Other LanguagesA fix is available for recalled Simplicity and Graco cribs. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced that Simplicity will provide consumers with a repair kit. We blogged last month about the recall, which affected about 1 million cribs with older hardware. Several deaths were reported as a result of the drop-side being installed upside-down. Simplicity now recommends immobilizing the drop-side. If your crib's hardware has a flexible tab at the bottom of the lower tracks and the top of the lower tracks are open, it's been recalled. Newer hardware, which is not subject to the recall, has the flexible tab located at the top of the lower track, and a permanent stop at the bottom. If you have one of these cribs, you need to register on Simplicity's Web site, www.simplicityforchildren.com, or through the company's hotline at (888) 593-9274. You'll be sent a repair kit and a coupon.
UPDATE - 8/18/09: The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission's Web site indicates that Simplicity is no longer conducting day to day operations and repair kits are no longer available. Parents are advised to dispose of the cribs.
