The state Department of Financial Institutions recently identified 10 investment scams as the most likely to trap Washington investors. Among the culprits:
- Ponzi schemes
- Unlicensed securities sellers
- Promissory notes issued by little known or non-existent companies promising high returns.
- Unscrupulous brokers
- Affinity fraud
- Prime bank schemes
