We love snappy consumer protection campaigns. And the New York Public Interest Research Group's new CyberStreetSmart.org Web site hits the mark. The site advises consumers on how to protect themselves against phishing, online shopping and auction scams and the hazards of Internet dating and social networking sites. There’s also a story about a 21-year-old college student who handed over her debit card number during a call with a Talent Palooza '06 promoter. She thought she was paying for a posh trip to Florida and a shot at a career as a fashion model. Instead, she ended up out $1,300.
