Office of the Attorney General

Attorney General

Bob Ferguson

If you had trouble canceling your America Online (AOL) service in the past, you may be owed money. AOL agreed to issue customer refunds as part of a $3 million nationwide settlement with state attorneys general. The company will also reform its cancellation policies to make it easier for subscribers to cancel their subscriptions. AOL customers are now able to easily cancel service online at http://cancel.aol.com.

AOL will pay back consumers who have filed complaints concerning unauthorized charges for services received since January 1, 2005. If you live in Washington and feel you are owed money, you can still file a complaint with the Attorney General’s Office online or call toll-free 1-800-551-4636 between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. to request a complaint form. We'll forward your complaint to AOL, which will refund you directly.
