Actor J.K. Simmons (“Law & Order” and “Spider-Man”) and Montana State Auditor John Morrison teamed up to film a documentary aimed at preventing investor fraud, the Missoulian newspaper reported. Their flick, “Fraud Under the Big Sky,” will premiere on Oct. 30 on network and public TV stations in Montana. A deputy securities commissioner in the Auditor’s Office said a trailer will be posted on the agency’s Web site and copies will be available for consumer education.
The film will feature victims, law enforcement, investment professionals and a journalist talking about two notorious Montana investment scams that targeted the elderly. The show spotlights Tom O'Neill, a Butte stockbroker accused of overtrading accounts to generate commissions, and Pat Davison, a former gubernatorial candidate convicted of operating a Ponzi scheme. The film is financed by a grant from the Investor Protection Trust, a nonprofit investor education organization.
