OLYMPIA – The State of Washington and the Washington Education Association announced today that they have settled a dispute stemming from campaign finance charges brought 8 years ago against the Washington Education Association.
The Washington Supreme Court has denied the State's motion to vacate the stay of execution. The court denied the motion without prejudice, indicating the State may renew the motion before the superior court in 90 days. This means the execution will not occur on December 3, 2008. Rather, the execution date will reset in the future once the stays are lifted.

Chris Gregoire and Attorney General Rob McKenna announced today that Washington state will file suit in U.S. District Court on Wednesday to compel the U.S. Department of Energy to complete the cleanup of 53 million gallons of highly toxic and radioactive waste buried in tanks at the Hanford Nuclear Reservation.
AG McKenna joins in requesting the Federal Trade Commission require additional disclosures for buyers
SEATTLE – The federal “Used Car Rule” needs a tune-up. Forty-two attorneys general are asking the Federal Trade Commission to add additional disclosures about a vehicle’s history to the “Buyer’s Guide” notice displayed on cars available for purchase from dealers.
“Today the Washington Supreme Court upheld the state’s long standing procedural process for the siting of energy facilities. This decision is a victory for the generation of alternative energy in our state, for job creation and for economic growth. The 65 wind turbines planned by the Kittitas Valley Wind Power Project will power tens of thousands of homes while preventing more than a half million tons of carbon dioxide per year from being released into the atmosphere. The construction of this wind-power plant will create jobs just when our economy so desperately needs them. And long term, this project will generate significant annual property tax revenue for Kittitas County.
