OLYMPIA—When Phyllis Wicks moved to Redmond, she was happy to find a denturist who makes house calls. Wicks, a senior in her mid-80s, has difficultly getting around. But state investigators say that after billing a taxpayer-funded public health program for nearly $2,000, the denturist then delivered what Wicks describes as poorly fitting “George Washington teeth.”

SEATTLE – Attorneys general for Washington and 38 other states today announced that they reached a $12 million settlement with Mattel, Inc., and its subsidiary, Fisher-Price, Inc., resolving a 16-month investigation into the events that resulted in the voluntary nationwide recall of nearly 2 million toys for excessive lead paint in 2007.

OLYMPIA – A woman who pleaded guilty to multiple counts related to her theft of nearly $60,000 from residents of a Raymond nursing home has been sentenced to 10 years behind bars.
OLYMPIA – The State of Washington and the Washington Education Association announced today that they have settled a dispute stemming from campaign finance charges brought 8 years ago against the Washington Education Association.
The Washington Supreme Court has denied the State's motion to vacate the stay of execution.  The court denied the motion without prejudice, indicating the State may renew the motion before the superior court in 90 days.  This means the execution will not occur on December 3, 2008.  Rather, the execution date will reset in the future once the stays are lifted.
OLYMPIA – The Washington Attorney General’s Office says a Pinole, Calif., man’s mirror-image version of Russell Investments’ site violated the state’s anti-phishing law.
The Washington State Clemency and Pardons Board has scheduled a special hearing at 9 a.m. on  Monday, Dec. 1, 2008 to consider the Petition for Clemency by the Washington State Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty re Darold Stenson and, due to operational necessity, the pending execution of Darold R. Stenson has been rescheduled for 8 p.m. Dec. 3, 2008, at the Washington State Penitentiary in Walla Walla.
