Media Advisory: McKenna visits NE Washington for anti-meth school visits and funding announcement

OLYMPIA - Attorney General Rob McKenna will visit Spokane and Pend Oreille counties to present his “Operation: Allied Against Meth” program to area high schools and to discuss the state’s new meth law, including funding for new multi-jurisdictional meth task forces in Northeast Washington.

McKenna Encourages Conservation, Reports No Evidence of Price-Fixing So Far

SEATTLE – Attorney General Rob McKenna said that his office is monitoring gas prices in Washington for any indication of anticompetitive conduct among petroleum retailers or suppliers.

“The Attorney General’s Office has not found any evidence so far of illegal activity among gasoline retailers or producers in Washington,” McKenna said. “If we do, we will take vigorous enforcement action.”

McKenna encouraged drivers to conserve gasoline and find alternatives to driving alone.

PeoplePeople Sued for Failure to Deliver Online Orders

SEATTLE – A Vashon-based company named PeoplePeople that sells cheese, candles and posters online is being sued by the state for failure to deliver.

“PeoplePeople hasn’t been very people-friendly,” Attorney General Rob McKenna said. “The company has received numerous complaints for failure to deliver merchandise, issue refunds or respond to consumer inquiries.”

SEATTLE – Attorney General Rob McKenna today announced that Washington and 27 other states reached an agreement with PayPal, Inc. resolving concerns about the company’s business practices.

“Today’s settlement ensures that PayPal spells out important terms and conditions before a consumer becomes a PayPal member and each time a customer initiates a transaction,” McKenna said.

Public Counsel’s Work in Pacific Power Case Helps Block Rate Hike for Yakima and Walla Walla

SEATTLE – Yakima and Walla Walla residents will not feel the burden of a proposed rate hike by Pacific Power. The Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission (UTC) this week denied the company’s request for a nearly 18 percent rate increase, agreeing with arguments made by the Washington State Attorney General’s Public Counsel Section and other opposing parties.

McKenna announced a new multi-agency partnership this week that uses Internet safety education as a tool to protect youth from online predators, pornography, and cyberbullies.
