AG sues Washington Education Association for alleged campaign finance violations

February 12, 1997 - OLYMPIA--The State Attorney General's Office filed suit today against the Washington Education Association alleging multiple violations of Initiative 134, the state's campaign finance law.

"Our investigation shows the WEA clearly failed to provide important campaign finance information that the public had a right to know," said State Attorney General Christine Gregoire. "This suit seeks to enforce the law and bring WEA into compliance."

State Sues Internet-based Promoter of Cancer 'Cure'

Seattle – Oct. 5, 2001 - An Olympia man who used the Internet to promote an alternative cancer treatment with a purported 95 percent success rate has been sued by Attorney General Christine Gregoire for allegedly engaging in deceptive practices.

In a complaint filed in Thurston County Superior Court, attorneys with Gregoire’s High Tech Unit accused David L. Walker and his company, DLW Consulting, Inc., of numerous violations of the state’s Consumer Protection Act, including:

Judge Shuts Down Online Cancer Cure Site

OLYMPIA - A Thurston County Superior Court judge today ordered an Olympia man to permanently shut down an Internet website he used to promote a cancer treatment with no proven record of success.

Judge Thomas McPhee also ordered David L. Walker, owner and operator of DLW Consulting, to pay attorney fees and make $230,000 in restitution to 127 consumers nationwide who purchased his treatment.

Attorney General Christine Gregoire's High-Tech unit filed a consumer protection lawsuit against Walker last October.

OLYMPIA – Attorney General Rob McKenna issued the following statement today regarding the cases involving the Voters Education Committee and Public Disclosure Commission pending in the King County Superior Court:

Consumer Alert – Consumers Should Be Aware of VoIP Limitations

SEATTLE -- Several service providers in Washington are now offering Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) phone service. This new service allows consumers access to voice services using their Internet Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) connection, and no longer needs a dedicated telephone line to make phone calls. Many plans also provide long distance service at no charge.
