CONSUMER ALERT: Washingtonians data privacy rights following the 23andMe bankruptcy

OLYMPIA — Following 23andMe’s recent bankruptcy filing, the Attorney General’s Office reminds Washingtonians of their right to genetic data privacy and ability to request data deletion. 23andMe is a direct-to-consumer genetic testing company that collects and analyzes individual’s sensitive and unique genetic information.

CONSUMER ALERT: Watch out for charity scams seeking to profit from the California wildfires

OLYMPIA — The Attorney General’s Office Consumer Protection Division is warning Washingtonians to be on the lookout for scammers targeting donations aiding those affected by the wildfires in California. Attorney General Nick Brown asks Washingtonians to report any suspicious solicitations to his office.

Scam alert: Fraudulent Secretary of State notices targeting Washington small businesses

Attorney General Bob Ferguson is warning of a scammer posing as the Secretary of State’s Office targeting Washington small businesses. The scam letters demand payment well beyond the cost of state business filings, and threaten business owners with fines or dissolution of their business for failing to comply. The Secretary of State has also received reports of similar telephone scams targeting Latino businesses, where they were also threatened with jail.

AG Ferguson’s lawsuit returns more than $5.2 million from uncashed checks to Washingtonians

Attorney General Bob Ferguson announced today that he recovered more than $5.2 million plus interest that Washingtonians can claim through the state’s unclaimed property program. The money comes to Washington as a result of Ferguson’s lawsuit over uncashed checks issued by international money transfer company MoneyGram.
