ANCHOR:  Attorneys general for 39 states are applying a heavy hand when it comes to lead in toys. They recently announced a $12 million settlement with toy makers Mattel and Fisher-Price. Washington Attorney General Rob McKenna said our state will receive more than $240,000.

“When it comes to toy safety, we’re not playing games. Our settlement with Mattel offers important safeguards for our children’s health and for our environment. But we’re also creating a model of good business practices.”

ANCHOR: The companies recalled 2 million toys made in China between August and October 2007. States say the agreement gives them a better chance of preventing toxic toys from reaching store shelves.
