WASHINGTON STATE ATTORNEY GENERAL ROB MCKENNA SAYS HE’S WORKED OUT A SETTLEMENT WITH DISH NETWORK THAT RESOLVES ALLEGATIONS THAT THE COMPANY USED DECEPTIVE SALES PRACTICES.
“You know a lot of folks didn’t even realize that Dish Network had given itself permission to make automatic debits for charges to their credit cards. That detail was in the contract’s fine print. Some of the other customers complained to us for automatic charges for things like equipment they’d already returned. One senior citizen who was hit with $100 in overdraft fees from her bank said she couldn’t buy groceries for a week because Dish had drained her bank account with these charges.”

THINK YOU WERE WRONGED BY DISH? MCKENNA SAYS THE SATELLITE COMPANY WILL PROVIDE REFUNDS TO ELIGIBLE CONSUMERS.
“Well, Dish isn’t admitting wrongdoing, but it is paying about $5 million to the state to cover the costs of this action. Our state will receive about $325,000. More importantly, this agreement prohibits Dish Network from engaging in any of these alleged violations in the future, and they’re going to pay restitution to their customers who were overcharged.”
