REPORTER: Dude, you might have a Dell settlement check coming! Attorney General Rob McKenna announced today an agreement between the Attorneys General of 34 states and Dell under which Dell will provide restitution to customers.
REPORTER: What does today’s settlement with Dell achieve?
MCKENNA:(Dell settlement statement - 13 seconds)
This settlement really requires a reboot of Dell’s customer service system. Our agreement requires more information for consumers to prevent future communication breakdowns, but it also ensures that customers who are owed money are paid promptly.
REPORTER: What problems at Dell generated the attention of your office?
MCKENNA:(Dell sales practices - 8 seconds)
Well, Dell’s sales practices were at issue. Our office and attorneys general around the country have a heard a range of complaints from Dell customers.
REPORTER: What kind of complaints did AGs receive about Dell?
MCKENNA: (Range of complaints: 19 seconds)
Well, we really heard a range of complaints from consumers across the country. Some consumers had applied for zero-percent financing and then ended up being charged the whole amount, the interest on their computer purchase. Others had trouble getting warranty service on their computers. And still others reported they never received the computer rebates that they were promised.
