Other LanguagesSPOKANE – Attorney General Rob McKenna’s office today announced a settlement with Titleist Meats, LLC., concerning the company’s refund and cancellation policies. Titleist Meats has an office in Spokane and sells meat products door to door in Washington.
Under an agreement filed July 25 in Spokane County Superior Court, the company and owners Tammi J. Vecchio and Richard A. Vecchio II, did not admit any wrongdoing but agreed to comply with certain restrictions on its sales practices. They will also pay the state $2,500 in attorneys’ fees and costs.
The Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Division launched an investigation into Titleist’s sales practices in response to five consumer complaints. The state alleged Titleist Meats failed to sufficiently disclose the company’s refund and cancellation policies and did not comply with a federal law regarding refunds on door-to-door sales purchases.
Under the agreement, Titleist agreed to provide buyers with all government-required notices, receipts and other documentation. Salespeople must also inform buyers of their refund rights. A federal law provides a refund period of three business days on door-to-door sales of more than $25. The law also applies to many sales made away from the seller’s usual place of business, including home shows, expos and seminars.
In addition, the company must not misrepresent buyers’ cancellation rights or fail to respond to consumer complaints or requests for refunds. The agreement gives the Attorney General’s Office permission to inspect Titleist’s business records and requires the company to notify the office of any consumer complaints received during the next year.
