OLYMPIA, Wash. – Bryan Gilbert Robb, 35, today pled guilty in Spokane County Superior Court to one felony count of insurance fraud for filing a false insurance claim. Robb was sentenced to seven days in jail, a $1,000 fine and $800 in other court costs.

In June 2012, Robb filed a claim of more than $26,000 with Assurant after he said his Spokane home was robbed. He reported the robbery to Spokane Police, whose officers noted “many other expensive electronic devices and televisions were left untouched.” As proof of ownership, Robb gave Assurance digital photographs of the items he said were stolen, including a desktop computer, three gaming consoles, video games and several DVDs.

After he filed the claim, the insurance company determined the photos were taken after Robb reported them stolen. The insurance company then referred the case to the Insurance Commissioner’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU).

SIU investigates criminal insurance fraud in Washington State and works closely with insurance companies, the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC), National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB), the Washington state Attorney General’s Office and local law enforcement.

You can report suspected insurance fraud on the Insurance Commissioner’s website.
