Other LanguagesOLYMPIA – A Seattle woman was sentenced Tuesday for Medicaid fraud charges filed by the Attorney General’s Office.
Deborah Raymond pled guilty to one count of First Degree Theft and one count of Medicaid False Statement. The charges stem from Raymond’s contract with the Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS) to provide Medicaid-funded services to her brother in 2007 and 2008. Such services generally include cooking, cleaning, shopping and other personal services for those unable to care for themselves.
Documents filed by the AG’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit (MFCU) show that Raymond acknowledged being paid approximately $1,200 a month to care for her brother even though she had not been to his house in nearly six months. In addition, the defendant’s brother told investigators his sister worked far fewer hours than she was paid to provide.
Raymond was sentenced to six months of community placement and ordered to pay $18,451 in restitution to the Medicaid Program plus additional fees and costs.
