OLYMPIA – Washington State Attorney General Rob McKenna issued the following statement today regarding Gov. Gregoire’s naming of King County Superior Court Judge Steven González to the State Supreme Court:
“I am grateful to Judge González for, among other accomplishments, his successful work as a prosecutor to fight terrorism and domestic violence. His distinguished background in the public and private sectors, as well as his inspiring personal story, makes him a welcome addition to our state’s highest court. On behalf of all of our attorneys and professional staff, I extend our congratulations to Judge González and welcome him to the Washington State Supreme Court.”
Attorney General McKenna served as a reference for Judge González at his request, and strongly endorsed his appointment to the Governor and her staff. McKenna and González have both worked on access to justice issues and have known one another since the Attorney General served on the King County Council and the Judge was appointed to the Superior Court. Judge Gonzalez was also endorsed by an impressive array of lawyers and other leaders in the legal profession.
