Former corrections officer sentenced for sexual misconduct
OLYMPIA — A former Franklin County corrections officer will spend nearly a year in jail and have to register as a sex offender because of sexual misconduct with two inmates in the Franklin County Jail.
Justin Thomas Husom was sentenced Sept. 12 in Franklin County Superior Court to 10 months in jail for first-degree custodial sexual misconduct, a Class C felony.
“Mr. Husom violated the public’s trust and has been held accountable for taking advantage of not only one but two women in custody,” said Attorney General Bob Ferguson.
Another 364 days for second-degree sexual misconduct and official misconduct was suspended pending Husom’s successful completion of his post-release conditions.
Husom pleaded guilty to the charges in July, admitting he had sexual contact with two female inmates over the course of about two years in exchange for items such as razors and candy.
After his release, Husom has been ordered to register as a sex offender and will spend a year on probation. He was also ordered to pay $1,300 in fines and fees.
The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office investigated the case. Attorneys Tienney Milnor and John Hillman handled the case after it was forwarded to the Attorney General’s Office by the Franklin County Prosecutor in order to avoid the appearance of a conflict.
