OLYMPIA…Attorney General Rob McKenna is proud to announce the Conference of Western Attorneys General has selected Deputy Attorney General Shirley Battan to receive the Nelson Kempsky Award for outstanding leadership and management.
“Shirley is an excellent leader and a role model for this office,” McKenna said. “I am very proud of the work that Shirley does for the office and this award is a symbol of her efforts.”
As a Deputy Attorney General, Shirley supervises four legal divisions and is ultimately responsible for the legal work of several hundred lawyers and professional staff in those divisions.
In addition to her substantive legal responsibilities, however, she also provides oversight for many office wide management initiatives. Since becoming a deputy in 1994, Shirley has been a key player in almost every significant AGO management endeavor including the AG Academy, Mid-Level Manager’s Training Program, AGO Policy Manual, the Attorney General’s Performance Management Plan and the Diversity Advisory Committee.
