OLYMPIA–The Attorney General’s Office announced a settlement in its lawsuit against the Washington State Republican Party (WSRP) for violating thestate’s campaign finance disclosure law.
The suit stems from a complaint filed with the Public Disclosure Commission alleging that the WSRP had misused funds from its exempt account to pay for three mailings in support of its gubernatorial candidate, Dino Rossi.
The WSRP was fined $25,000 under the terms of the agreement filed in King County Superior Court Wednesday. The agreement requires the WSRP to pay $15,000 in fines and an additional $20,000 in attorney fees. The remaining $10,000 of the fine is suspended. The WSRP will immediately owe the suspended amount if it is found to have committed any new campaign law violations between now and Dec. 31, 2014.
