WSBA awards the Local Hero Award to attorneys who have made outstanding contributions to their communities. Handy was recognized for her ongoing work in providing no-cost legal services to low-income individuals.
“Cheryl is a role model for this office,” Deputy Attorney General Shirley Battan said. “Her dedication and devotion to serving her community is to be commended. I am very proud of the work Cheryl has done and applaud her peers for recognizing her contributions.”
Handy joined the Attorney General’s Office in 2005. As a member of the Labor and Industries division, she handles cases involving industrial insurance and employer services. She received her undergraduate degree from Weber State University and graduated from Gonzaga Law School.
In addition to her case responsibilities, she serves on the board of the Government Lawyers Bar Association.
