TACOMA – Attorney General Rob McKenna today announced that Mary Lobdell has been promoted to Consumer Protection Division Section Chief for Southwest Washington effective Dec. 4.
Lobdell, who has more than 16 years of experience with the Attorney General’s Office, will supervise staff in the Tacoma Consumer Protection office. She will also become the Consumer Protection Division’s lead attorney on matters involving the automotive industry, working with Washington dealers to ensure they comply with consumer protection laws.
"This opens a new chapter in my legal career that builds upon my prior enforcement and collection experience with the office,” Lobdell said. “ I look forward to representing Attorney General McKenna and the interests of Washington's citizens."
Lobdell began her career with the Attorney General’s Office in 1985 as a law clerk in the Torts Division. She returned to the office in 1990 as an Assistant Attorney General.
She received the Governor's Service and Quality Improvement Award in 1998 for her work assisting the Department of Revenue. As a founding member of the Bankruptcy and Collections Unit, she recovered more than $8.6 million for state agencies.
Just prior to joining the Attorney General’s Office, Lobdell worked as a law clerk for former Washington Supreme Court Justice James Anderson.
“Mary Lobdell has extensive litigation expertise and is well-regarded for her skills as a trainer and supervisor,” said Consumer Protection Division Chief Doug Walsh. “Her many years of experience and commitment to Washington state and our community will truly enhance the Consumer Protection Division.”
Tacoma Division Chief Linda Moran has known Lobdell since they were law school students. Lobdell graduated cum laude from University of Puget Sound Law School (now Seattle University Law School) in 1987. She also graduated cum laude from Gonzaga University, where she earned an economics degree in 1979.
Moran said she admired Lobdell, who was an editor of UPS’s Law Review. They worked together at the Attorney General’s Office in what was then the newly formed Licensing and Employment Security Division.
“I really admire Mary’s excellent leadership skills, knowledge and willingness to collaborate,” Moran said. “She’s a great fit for the Tacoma office and the Consumer Protection Division.”
Lobdell and her family are long-time residents of Tacoma, where she is a leader of Girl Scout Troop 731. She replaces Doug Walsh, who was recently promoted to Consumer Protection Division Chief.
