Other LanguagesOLYMPIA – Attorney General Rob McKenna just gave counties statewide two more weapons in the fight against meth. Today he announced the hiring of two new prosecutors to help resource-starved counties prosecute meth crimes.
Scott Marlow, a deputy prosecuting attorney with the King County Prosecutor’s Office, and Rosalyn DiIorio, a felony attorney with the Northwest Defenders Association, will join the Attorney General’s Criminal Justice Division in Seattle.
“This is an important step in our fight against meth crimes,” McKenna said. “Our county prosecutors simply don’t have the resources to prosecute the increasing number of meth-related cases in their counties.
“ Meth has far-reaching impacts, from property crimes to identity theft to child abuse and neglect,” he said. “It’s overwhelming local law enforcement. The only way we’ll get a handle on this epidemic is to help them bring these criminals to justice.”
McKenna streamlined agency resources to free up the funds to hire the new prosecutors.
“This was a high priority for me,” McKenna said. “The attorneys we just hired come with unique skills and extensive background that will make them highly valuable in the fight against meth. I’m pleased to bring them into our Criminal Justice Division.”
Marlow has worked for the King County Prosecutor’s Office since he graduated from the Ohio State University College of Law in 1995. He is also a lecturer for the Washington Association of Prosecuting Attorneys on cross-examination of expert witnesses, trial preparation and case development. He starts work with the Attorney General's Office on Aug. 8, 2005.
DiIorio joined the Northwest Defenders Association in 2000 and worked as a misdemeanor attorney and juvenile attorney before becoming a felony attorney in September 2001. She worked as a contract attorney for McKisson, Sargent and Oliason, P.S. in Seattle prior to that.
DiIorio served as a law clerk for the Attorney General’s Tort Claims Division from January 1998 to May 1999 when she graduated from the Seattle University School of Law. She will return to the Attorney General's Office on Aug. 30, 2005.
