OLYMPIA — Attorney General Bob Ferguson today announced the appointment of Peter Lavallee as Communications Director for the Washington State Attorney General’s Office.
“As Communications Director, Peter will ensure that the public has timely information about the wide range of legal issues affecting Washington residents — information that is critical to helping consumers protect their rights, to providing transparency in government, and to keeping Washington moving forward,” said Ferguson. “Peter brings a commitment to public service and a wealth of communications and legal experience that will serve him well in this role.”
Lavallee has extensive communications experience, having served in a similar capacity as the Director of Internal and External Communications for the Office of the Attorney General of the District of Columbia. He also handled press relations as Administrator of the Clinton Legal Expense Trust, the defense fund for then-President and First Lady Bill and Hillary Clinton. More recently, he served as Communications Director for the Washington State Department of Natural Resources.
“I am excited to join Attorney General Ferguson in serving the people of Washington,” Lavallee said, “I share his focus on the fair administration of justice and his priorities of protecting consumers, veterans and our environment.”
In addition to public service, Peter has had a distinguished career in law and finance.
A graduate of Columbia University and Tulane Law School, Peter’s legal experience includes private law firm practice and serving as General Counsel of a NASDAQ-listed technology company. Lavallee also clerked for the Honorable David A. Brock, Chief Justice of the New Hampshire Supreme Court.
Peter received his MBA from the Yale School of Management and worked as a Vice President in the Mergers & Acquisitions group at Merrill Lynch.
He begins work at the AGO on Jan. 5, 2015.
