2012 Medal of Honor Recipients

For Posthumous Service:

BiendlCorrections Officer Jayme Biendl
Washington State Department of Corrections

On January 29th, 2011 Correctional Officer Jayme Biendl was working as the Chapel Officer at the Washington State Reformatory Unit, Monroe Corrections Complex when she was assaulted and killed by an inmate.

Corrections Officer Jayme Biendl had served with the Department of Corrections for over eight years.

Washington State Patrol

On February 23rd, 2012 Trooper Radulescu stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation.  Trooper Radulescu was shot by the driver of the suspect vehicle and died from his injuries.

Trooper Radulescu had served with the Washington State Patrol for over fifteen years.

 

For Serious Injury:

EjdeDeputy Andrew Ejde
Kitsap County Sheriff's Office

On January 23rd, 2011, Deputy Ejde, along with other deputies responded to an armed individual in a parking lot.  While the individual was being patted down for weapons, he suddenly ran from the deputies and started shooting at them.  Deputy Ejde was stuck with bullets in the left shoulder and right hand.  Deputy was unable to get cover, however another deputy drew the suspects fire. 

Deputy Ejde has served over seven years with the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office.

On January 23rd, 2011, Deputy Stacy, along with other deputies responded to an armed individual in a parking lot.  While the individual was being patted down for weapons, he suddenly ran from the deputies and started shooting at them.  Deputy Stacy was stuck in the right shoulder.  Deputy Stacy was able to get cover, while another deputy drew the suspects fire. 

Deputy Stacy has served for over ten years with the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office.

 

For Meritorious Conduct:

On January 23rd, 2011, Deputy McDonald, along with other deputies responded to an armed individual in a parking lot.  Upon her arrival she observed the wounded two deputies and immediately engaged the armed suspect in gunfire.  Deputy McDonald wounded the suspect and was able to provide aid and assisted to the two wounded deputies.

Deputy McDonald has served over eleven years with the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office.

Issaquah Police Department

On September 24th, 2011 Corporal Munoz, Issaquah Police Department, along with other officers responded to an armed man call, with shots fired at a local school.   The officers placed themselves between the shooting suspect and numerous citizens at a sporting event. The officers exchanged gun fire with the suspect for over ten minutes before he was neutralized. 

Corporal Munoz has served over ten years with the Issaquah Police Department and has over eleven years of law enforcement experience.

On September 24th, 2011 Officer Asbell, Issaquah Police Department, along with other officers responded to an armed man call, with shots fired at a local school.   The officers placed themselves between the shooting suspect and numerous citizens at a sporting event. The officers exchanged gun fire with the suspect for over ten minutes before he was neutralized. 

Officer Laura Asbell has served over four years with the Issaquah Police Department.

On September 24th, 2011 Officer Horn, Issaquah Police Department, along with other officers responded to an armed man call, with shots fired at a local school.   The officers placed themselves between the shooting suspect and numerous citizens at a sporting event. The officers exchanged gun fire with the suspect for over ten minutes before he was neutralized. 

Officer Horn has served over fourteen years with the Issaquah Police Department.

On September 24th, 2011 Officer Petersen Issaquah Police Department, along with other officers responded to an armed man call, with shots fired at a local school.   The officers placed themselves between the shooting suspect and numerous citizens at a sporting event. The officers exchanged gun fire with the suspect for over ten minutes before he was neutralized. 

Officer Jesse Petersen has served six years with the Issaquah Police Departmentand has over ten years of law enforcement experience.
