Medal of Honor Recognition Awards were given for the first time to individuals who have gone " beyond the call of duty" assisting families of officers killed in the line of duty and for their support of the Medal of Honor Program.

 
Recipients of the Medal of Honor Recognition Awards: WSP Lt . Robert Veliz and his wife, Barbara; SPD Honor Guard Commander, Roger Dixon, and his wife, Mary; SPD Executive Officer T.J. Havenar; KCSO Honor Guard Commander, Jim Fuda; Pacific Regional Trustee/Director of the Law Enforcement Memorial, Gayle Frink-Schulz, and her husband, Randy.

 
Ceremonial Wreath Honor Guard members were 1998 Medal of Honor Recipients for Exceptionally Meritorious Conduct, Clark County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Craig Hogman and Bellevue Officer Greg Lum lay the Ceremonial Wreath in honor of all fallen officers.

 
A moment of silence was observed for all fallen officers.

 
Douglas County Sheriff, and current President of WASPC, Dan LaRoche presided over the ceremony as the Master of Ceremonies.

 
SPD Executive Officer T.J. Havenar commanded the color and honor guards during opening and closing ceremonies.

Deputy Chief Bill Stairs, Burlington Northern Santa Fe Police, accepts the Medal of Honor on behalf of Agent William Appletell who was killed in the line of duty December 19, 1917.

 
Chief Bruce Bjork, Department of Fish and Wildlife, accepts two Medals of Honor on behalf of Agent Herbert Minnick, killed in the line of duty October 19, 1932 and Agent Sherman Handron, killed in the line of duty on August 8, 1943.

 
Chief Mike Haslip, Blaine Police Department, accepts the Medals of Honor on behalf of Assistant Chief Larry Duronso and Officer Douglas Krenz, both killed in the line of duty on September 4, 1978.
