SEATTLE — Attorney General Bob Ferguson has appointed Senior Counsel Karin Nyrop as the new chief of his office’s University of Washington (UW) Division.  The division provides legal services to the university, which includes campuses in Seattle, Bothell and Tacoma as well as the UW Medical Center. 

“The University of Washington will be well served by Karin’s impressive combination of legal expertise, leadership experience, personal achievements and demonstrated commitment to public service,” said Ferguson. 

Nyrop brings 30 years of legal experience to this position.  She has been with the division for 17 years, serving in a variety of roles, including assistant attorney general, team leader and most recently interim division chief.  She is also a lecturer on design and construction law for graduate students in the university’s construction management program.

Prior to joining the Attorney General’s Office in 1997, Nyrop served as a Washington Supreme Court Clerk, a private litigation attorney and a King County deputy prosecuting attorney. 

Nyrop is also a U.S. Army veteran.  She enlisted after high school and served for three years as a military police officer.

Outside the office, she has completed four Ironman triathlons and currently coaches a triathlon team that raises money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

Nyrop earned her bachelor’s degree summa cum laude from Saint Martin’s University and graduated magna cum laude from the Seattle University School of Law.
