Free shred events starting again

(Privacy, Identity Theft) Permanent link
Shredded_paperI know it’s important to shred sensitive documents to reduce my risk of becoming an identity theft victim. So, instead of throwing them away or dropping them in the recycle bin, I pile them up in my home office. But, my shred pile just grows and grows. Soon the pile is falling off the desk. I move the receipts, bank statements and credit card applications to a file box with the intention of shredding them later. But, life gets busy and the next thing I know I have two or three boxes full of documents that need to be shredded.

Thankfully, the shred event season has begun and I won’t have to spend hours catching up on my shredding, and neither will you. We can bring our boxes to a free community shredding event to keep our personal information out of the hands of crooks.

The first shred event of the season was last week, and events are scheduled through October. Check our calendar for dates and locations across Washington state. You can also find the shred events listed on our Facebook page at: http://www.facebook.com/WAStateAttorneyGeneral/app_208195102528120. The calendar will be updated as new events are scheduled.

The AGO isn't a sponsor or organizer of these particular events; we just list them for your convenience. To confirm an event or receive additional information, please contact the organizations in the listing.

If an event isn't there, it's because we don't know about it. To have your free event listed email me the details (date, time, location, sponsor, shred company) at sarah.lane@atg.wa.gov.

The supposed Shred Event at Wild Waves, Federal Way, WA. today, 4/19/14, was nowhere to be found. I drove up to the BECU event in Federal Way. Anyway we can check on the legitimacy of the event before we commit?
AGO Blog Comment Manager (lw): Please refer to the text posted at the top of the Shredathon Event listings.
To confirm an event or receive additional information, please contact the organizations in the listing. The AGO is not sponsoring or organizing any shred events at this time, although we continue to post public shredding events organized by others on this web site when we hear of them or are contacted by an agency hosting an event.
